This is your breathing and the ability to burn calories. The fitter you are, then, it will take you longer to become breathless.
When performing cardio‘ the main point of it is to improve your fitness and/or lose weight. You do this, by burning calories. So the fitter you are, the longer you can do the exercise, and the more calories you will burn away.
