Exercise after delivery can be resumed as soon as 3 – 6 weeks after delivery. It largely depends on the mode of delivery and your status of healing post-delivery. In the initial stages, it is better to see a good physiotherapist who will assess your general condition, the strength of the abdominal muscles and suggest exercises which are suitable for you. Walking and moderate level of exercise can be started after weeks of delivery, when the uterus has gone back to its pre pregnant state. If you have had a caesarian section, please avoid exercises which involve heavy activity of the abdominal muscles or any weight lifting.
